I was cutting the long orchard grass we have surrounding our yard yesterday and came across a bunch of bird feathers. I guess smaller animals haven't been too lucky around here lately.

I remember when we lived in town about 8 years ago. I looked out the window to the back yard and saw a hawk grabbing what I thought was a rabbit out of the yard. It turned out the fur was feathers and it was a mourning dove. Anyway, the hawk stayed on the ground, eating the bird until it was either spooked or done, but it deposited a piece of that dove in a butterfly bush we had in the yard. I don't know if it meant to come back later, or if it was just staking it's territory.
