Nap Time

Today a friend took me out to lunch as a thank you for some assistance I gave her a week ago. She’s hoping to get a much better and well deserved new job and I helped her with her resume.

We went to lunch at PF Chang’s and it was pretty darn delicious. It was the first time I’ve ever been to a PF Chang’s because until recently there wasn’t one in town and I had either never paid attention to them while in other cities or just didn’t know what it was. I got the orange peel beef and brown rice. She got a chicken peanut salad. We split some steamed veggie dumplings and an order of spring rolls. I thought my dish was outstanding with a good mix of spicy and I love that concentrated orange taste. We decided that the chicken on her salad actually detracted from the salad. My advice is to avoid it.

While we were there we noticed some people at other tables, ok we were doing some major people watching, and some of those people were using terrible table manners– picking up soup bowls and slurping from them; using the table as a prop for their tired weary bodies; using their laps as props for their really, really tired weary bodies; and not putting their napkins in the lap. Please, I hate to sound like what everyone’s mother should have sounded like, but sit up straight; keep your other hand in your lap and chew with your mouth closed.

Meat Byproduct of the Day

The better half received this today in his inbox.

It is nearly poetic, don’t you think?

Like a Sequoia

Today, after lunch, we went over to Target to pick up a few things. Are all Target’s that clean, neat and well run? I think so and I think that’s why Target kicks W*lM*rt to the curb.

The woman in line in front of me was a good foot shorter than I am. I am not really tall by any stretch of the imagination. I think I’m of average height but today I felt like a mighty Sequoia.

What?

As you know, I’ve been selling stuff on eBay. I sold a book last night to someone who had emailed me earlier getting clarification about the book. You’d think if the person went to the trouble to inquire about specifics they would have noticed my big ol’ “I only accept Paypal” notice. I got an email from this person again today wanting to send me cash. Two things come to mind…how could you not notice payment options and who sends cash through the mail (if, indeed, that’s what she really meant)?

I Should Remember That

I’ve been working on a participant handbook for a training class. As many times as I’ve written documents like this, I still occasionally have a total brain freeze and have to look up simple things in a technical style book. I wonder what it is that makes me forget simple routine rules.

Dark Chocolate Raisins

It is amazing the psyche restoring powers of dark chocolate covered raisins. We stopped by the store, For the Love of Chocolate, after lunch and I got some of those dark beauties.

If you don’t want to hear about feminine hygiene don’t read this

This morning I woke up and the CRAMP was upon me. I’ll tell you this much, I’m counting the years until I’m through with this whole reproductive part of my life. How ironic that I waited and waited and waited afraid that I wouldn’t get my period and I’d be laughed out of 8th grade only to now hate it and wish it gone.

I got on the treadmill this morning and walked for 30 minutes at not a particularly fast pace since I felt like crap but I got 30 minutes in and the whole time I was walking I was thinking exercise is supposed to help with the CRAMP. Yeah, blow me conventional wisdom. I think it is something the medical field tells women so that they’ll exercise. I exercised on top of a Motrin and as soon as I was done I took 2 more. For those of you at home that’s 3 Motrin in an hour. I’m planning on taking as many as the bottle says I can in a 24 hour period (no pun intended).

Crab Chowder

Sunday evening we made Crab Chowder and it was awesome. In case you’re hankering for some crab chowder here’s what we did…in a large stockpot cooked 2 slices of bacon that had been chopped. Scooped the bacon out and let rest on a paper towel. Chopped an onion and a stalk of celery and 2 cloves of garlic and then added those items to the bacon fat. Then we drizzled in some sherry. Cooked for a few minutes and then added 2 yukon gold potatoes that were in 1/4 – 1/2 inch dice. To that we added chicken broth about a ½ cup. Then we cooked for about 15minutes with the lid on to get the potatoes soft. After the potatoes were soft, we added 3 cups of milk (1/2 half and half and 1/2 2% milk). Then we added some celery seed, old bay, cayenne, cilantro and white pepper. We used at least 1/4 teaspoon of each with a little more on the white pepper-the can was almost done with so I just shook it all in there. Meanwhile I went over the crab meat (lump crab) and made sure all the shells were long gone. The crab was then coated with old bay. Then we added the crab and a little more sherry to the pot and for the next hour we cooked for 15 minutes and then let rest for 15 and then cooked for 15 and then let rest for 15. And, (I know we’re done with the hour) we cooked for a little longer until we were sure we were at the chowder consistency. Then we topped with bacon and parsley. Very, very good.

I think I just saw

We’re not watching the Super Bowl, but I just turned on the tee-vee to find out the score and I think I just saw J*stin “score” on J*net J*ckson. Did I just see her nipple on CBS?
