Frog and Goat

I'm weary of the world/Weary of the world it seems

  • This morning at 7:20am the phone rang. It was the woman who cuts our hair. She told us to come in a half hour later than our appointment. I didn’t even know the phone was ringing until the better-half got out of bed to look at caller-id. We joked with her when we got to the salon that we appreciated the wake-up call.

Newly shorn, we went over to Arts in the Park to see some, oddly enough, art. We’ve been many, many times over the years and have never purchased anything. This year I wanted to change that and change that trend we did. We bought a really cool piece from these folks. On the way home, I observed that once we put this piece up in the family room that everything on the walls in that room will be pieces of art done by an actual artist. We have a print by Eric Joyner and an original photograph from Wilton Tenney, who is a friend of the better-half.

  • For most of the day I sat in a computer lab and talked about the software system that for years I trained and I now write curriculum about. Let me tell you, I feel like shit. There’s always one person in a crowd that you just don’t get a good vibe from. Twice now, I’ve gotten the same vibe from this person (only seen her twice) and each time the vibe has been the one where she oozes disdain. Maybe contempt. Either way, not a good vibe to get from someone.

The projects I’m working on have really short deadlines and prior to this day-long meeting, I thought things were going fine. Gee, when I’m wrong, I’m really wrong.

I can’t wait to go back to the office on Monday and sit down with the powers that be and explain what the team really wants is a step-by-step, keystroke-by-keystroke script. And, you guessed it, they needed it yesterday.

I think it is time to break out the booze and play with my Darth Tater.

  • On the way home from work today, I heard about Rafe Esquith and the first thing I thought was now there’s a hero. I think sometimes we confuse the words famous and hero. Playing football or packing a stadium full of screaming rock and roll fans doesn’t equate to hero. This guy is the real deal.

  • I tried watching the Star Wars trailer using Firefox. The sound I got sounded like Peter Frampton asking if I felt like he does. I switched over to IE and the trailer played beautifully. Methinks, Lucas has been called to the dark side of the force.

  • Today I’m off from work. The director of our department gives everyone a free pass in the month of their birthday. I’ve taken care of some mundane tasks that are normally weekend jobs…like grass cutting and vacuuming. The real fun begins at 11:30. I’m having lunch with a friend. I’m not sure where we are going but it should be swelligant.

Speaking of food, last night we feasted. We had grilled Mediterranean lamb sausages, zucchini and a mushroom, onion and garlic risotto. It had been a long time since I made risotto and I usually use a recipe but I winged it last night and I have to say it was pretty awesome. I reconstituted some dried mushrooms and finely chopped them so there was pervasive woody nuttiness all through the risotto.

  • This morning after breakfast I noticed what looked like a leaf in our kitchen window. Not a leaf, a mothra.

  • Back in 1986, I went to Germany as part of an exchange program. My German counterpart in the exchange and I are still friends. When I was visiting her during that summer, we went to the Castle Neuschwanstein with her sister’s family. At the time, her sister had only one child who was about five.

The 5 year old and I decided we didn’t want to ride the tram down the mountain but that we’d walk together and meet everyone at the bottom of the hill. It started to rain. I scooped her up and we quickly hurried to the bottom of the hill. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the rest of our party. So, in my brilliance, I asked the 5 year old for assistance. I figured she was German and should be able to help decipher signs, etc. I think she was crying when we finally found everyone. I was nearly ready to cry too. My friend still finds it hilarious that I was asking her niece for help in reading road signs. I figured her German was better than mine and why not?

  • Check out this link to see one of the most awesome sights. EVER. Yep, the crane was here this morning and lifted our new A/C unit to the roof and took away the old broken unit. The crane operator laid the old broken unit on the street just as sweetly as a mother puts her baby down. We clapped and cheered.

The A/C guys are swarming the office and we hope to have A/C by the afternoon. Whoohoo.
