A Small World

Carol, from California, left a comment the other day and mentioned that she has a friend in Abingdon. Carol wondered if I lived anywhere near Abingdon. The answer was no but that I’ve been to Abingdon a gazillion times for work. I happened to mention in my reply comment to her that I like to eat at a place called Alison’s when I’m in Abingdon. As, it turns out Carol likes to eat there too and the main draw is the potato soup. Which is the same reason I really like eating there–actually, from what I gather Alison’s is practically world famous because of the potato soup.

I thought I’d share the exchange Carol and I’ve had since I’m not sure if anyone else looks at comments. I think it’s pretty cool that Carol happened on the F&G and then, as it turns, out we both like the same restaurant in a small town in Southwest Virginia.

It’s Friday I’m in love

I’m wearing new sneakers today and I don’t believe that anyone can see me because I’m moving so fast. The miracle of new sneakers: you move at hyperwarp all day. I have to calculate light speed every time I cross the room.

The better-half had to ferry his mother to a doctor’s appointment yesterday and to kill time while she did her thing, he went to Circuit City and now I’m looking at this. Sweet child o’ mine, this is a nice monitor. A small footprint, sharp image, cool design. My inner geek is popping out all over.

Mmmm Burritos

My friend J and I went out to lunch today. She had the burrito bol and I had the vegetarian burrito. Can you guess where we went? Chipotle.

While we were walking out the door, she told me about someone she works with who pronounces Chipotle wrong and he insists that his pronunciation is correct. He corrects J. Obviously, he is out of his mind. Check out the spelling, dude, the word ends in le not te. Idiots, got to love them.

At least I slept

We have six windows in our new bedroom. Three of them are slammed right next to each other so that they share the same trim. I guess you could say those windows make up a window wall. Six windows let in a lot of light at night. Especially when there’s a full moon. Have I mentioned how much trouble I usually have sleeping when there’s a full moon?

Last night I told the better-half we have to do something with the windows because I am not sleeping well and with the huge full moon I won’t sleep. We now have a towel and some old bed sheets hanging in all but one window. Let me tell you, there’s nothing classier than a flannel sheet with a big hole in it covering up a wall of windows.

Sa da tay

Here at F&G we pride ourselves on being right on the cutting edge. So it is with great pleasure that I tell you we watched Pootie Tang over the weekend. What? Pootie Tang came out in 2001? My bad.

While Pootie Tang may never be considered fine cinema, we can’t stop referring to it. In fact, I can’t stop dancing like Biggie Shorty.

Sipi-tai.

Can I Get A Witness?

Here’s a little known fact about me that you wouldn’t probably know unless you’ve been within 5 feet of me while I’ve been reading email. I get witnessed to via emails from my MIL. I call these emails from the MIL witnessing because, usually, the better-half doesn’t get all the religious ones. I suppose she feels comfortable with his moral and Christian views since she helped formed them. I hate to inform her of this but whatever my moral and religious views are, they aren’t going to be changed by a chain email. I prefer to think things over, do some research and then think things over some more before I adopt a philosophy.

Working From Home

Today we’re both working from home. I know tons of people were able to get out and head into the office but when faced with the option to work from home or battle the slushy icy conditions, we chose to stay right where we were. A bonus to the whole work at home thing is that I just took a break and baked some oatmeal raisin cookies. For the record, I use golden raisins. They’re the best.

Someone, apparently, really wants school to be open tomorrow. A tractor with a plow has gone up and down our road a handful of times. I’m not sure if the department of transportation is in on the scraping or not since this looks like a privately owned tractor. I suppose the tractor could be one of the ones that the highway guys use to cut grass in the summer. The tractor driver is highly motivated and is hauling some butt up and down the road.

I wonder what it is like for transportation guys at home. Their kids really want to miss school and the plow drivers really have to go out and clear the roads. I’m sure there’s some type of whining going on.

Icy Cold Sunday

Last night while all other points Northeast of here were getting 2 feet of snow, we got a good bit of ice or freezing rain or whatever. At one point around 6pm we had a thunderstorm. How that’s possible when the temperature is below freezing is something I’m not clear on and really don’t care to understand. As some (including the woman who cleans our office building) would have you believe, we’re quickly approaching end times. Good. Maybe the rapture will rid us of all the stupid people out there.

Since we cancelled our family supper for today (the icy roads are scary) and the pork roast is tucked in the freezer, we’re going to paint our bedroom today. Our bedroom is actually what builders call a “bonus” room and the master bedroom has been turned into what we call “the lounge”. Which just means we have a really big room to paint. I’ve never purchased 4 gallons of paint in one color before but I did the other day at our home away from home. Speaking of room names what on God’s green earth is a “morning room”? I’ve seen it mentioned on the real estate channel and for the life of me I can’t figure it out. Why have a morning room? What about the other times of day? How come you also don’t get a noon room and an evening room? Sounds like a load of crap to me.

Why technology is cool

Elton John tickets went on sale today at 10am. We sat down to breakfast, I fired up the laptop and scored two tickets. I got my confirmation email and then shut down the laptop. The beauty of a girl, her laptop, her credit card and a plate of pancakes.

All you do to me is talk talk

Years ago the better-half and I were hanging out at my apartment one night and I think we’d been reading–our dates were killer exciting. I slid over on the double papasan couch that I had at the time and said to him “Want to chat?” He still gets a kick out that. I had had enough with the reading and wanted to talk, talk, talk.

Today I was responding to my friend J’s email and realized that I had written about 5 paragraphs. Her portion of the email was about 5 sentences long. Maybe 7 sentences. When I realized this, I wrapped it up and hit Send. I guess I just wanted to talk, talk, talk.
