Call me Ishmael

On the road today, I saw a big ol’ white Buick with the license plate “1 Pequod”. I started laughing. I’m not sure if the old man driving the big ol’ Buick saw me laughing, but I hope he did and knew I appreciated his sense of humor.

Don’t get it? Check it.

Bravo, Bravo

I’m excited to report that the Bravo channel is airing the Olympics. Of course, many of you probably already knew that. But, since I’m unable to watch any local channels I’m quite happy to have found a way to watch the games.

I don’t know why this is but table tennis and badminton are very exciting, aren’t they? I like the fact that a game I’ve played before is an Olympic sport. And, I like knowing that there are rules to badminton. I always thought the point was to hit the shuttlecock as hard as possible so as to dominate and scare your sister.

Speaking of Bad, how cool is it that Ian Thorpe is called “Thorpedo” and he wears that black suit?

Annoy Me and I Kick You To the Curb

I’ve been using MusicMatch Jukebox 8.2 and have actually paid money for it. I have liked it just fine and dandy but now I’m annoyed. I’ve declined upgrading to version 9.0 a dozen times and can’t get the software to quit asking me to upgrade. I’m not paying another $20 bucks to listen to music on my machine at work. So, beginning today, I’m migrating all my playlists back over to Windows Media Player. I’ll continue to purchase music through MusicMatch until they annoy the ever-living out of me with regards to doing that and then I’ll find another service.

Yes, I’ve checked the leave me alone box. I’m also annoyed that it hogs the foreground when I have it open. Maybe that’s why there’s a new upgrade. I say fix the bug but don’t charge me again unless there’s something really nifty.

Look, Up in the Sky

By Jove, there’s sunlight and blue skies outside my window. What a strange place I’ve found myself in this day.

Too Cool For School

This afternoon the better-half and I went through boxes of his stuff from the time we cleaned out his mother’s attic. We found an old Lite-Brite (you can see it at night).

After dinner I laid on the floor and created something marvelous…

2nd Bullet Dodged

Charley has dumped 1 1/2″ of water since 11am (when I put a bucket outside). The bulk of the storm will be out of here by midnight. We’re super lucky to have missed the damaging winds.

I really feel for all those people in Florida who weren’t so lucky.

Dodged One Bullet

My sister and her husband weathered the hurricane pretty well. Since the storm twisted they ended up seeing more action than planned (they live nearish Orlando).

The storm is headed up the coast. We’re getting rain now, but tonight will be the interesting part for us. We learned several important lessons last year and the first one being don’t get caught unprepared. The car is already in the garage. We’re headed over to the MIL to get furniture off her deck and then we’re getting a new chain for the chain saw.

Denial of Service – ARRRGH

I now have more to whine about. The company that hosts our DNS is undergoing a distributed denial of service attack. If you can read this, then the attack is over. Much rejoycing will ensue because my email will be back. Oh how I miss my email.

One of the Greats

Goodbye Julia Child and thanks for all the food. Our copy of “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” has been used plenty of times. Thanks for making it so easy to do great things in the kitchen.

Excuse Me, While I Curse The Sky

Pardon me while I pout.

Hurricane Charley is going to hit Tampa sometime today. I feel for them that live there. My sister lives on the other side of Florida (the Atlantic coast) and said she was going out to get supplies (beer, soda, snacks). I told her those supplies sounded about right to me.

Since there is something about Virginia that screams “other states please send us your problems”, we’re expecting backlash from Charley (know where trash goes to die? Virginia. Look it up we’re a huge dumping ground for other states). Saturday night we’re expecting winds that could knock over trees. Great. We still haven’t gotten all the wood taken care of from the last hurricane that kicked through. I can hardly wait for “winds that could knock over trees”–that is exactly what the local weather dude said on the radio this morning.

Other problems abound. Directv sent their incompetent dish installer a few weeks ago and as the asshat did not show up when scheduled he never came in the house to actually point the dish to the new coordinates. We no longer have local channels. It was so bad that when we called Customer Service, the other night, the phone rep said “I recognize your zip code”–in other words, lots of people were screwed by the asshat. They can’t send someone until sometime in mid-September. I was not on the phone (the better-half was handling it) but I screeched loud enough that the phone rep immediately refunded us two months worth of local channel charges. Damn straight. You know what that means…no Olympics. The absolute horror. I can’t stand that thought. I can’t believe I’m going to miss ALL OF THE OLYMPICS BECAUSE SOME MORON DIDN’T DO HIS JOB. May you rot in Hell.
