Schmocks

Don’t you hate it when for no reason your socks decide they don’t want to stay up in the correct position? All morning the socks have done their job and now without so much a how-de-do they refuse to stay up.

Just Couldn’t Be Bothered

Late yesterday afternoon we worked on getting all the wires connected appropriately so that the TV/Stereo system works like we want and then we got all the CDs into baskets so they don’t scream “Can You Believe They Have This Many CDS?” (by the way, a lame picture is under the House Proud section). Around 5 pm I started the oven on low and slow for ribs. I applied the rub to them in the morning and we always low and slow them in the oven for a couple of hours then slap them on the grill for about 5 minutes. Last night around 7, we decided that I would put some sauce on them and let them cook a little longer outside the aluminum foil–it was cold and we were warm so the grill was not an option.

I whipped up the fantabulous spinach and bacon and garlic dish and the better-half made egg noodles. We divvied up the ribs and I proceeded to eat all my egg noodles to make room for the messy eating of ribs. Then, I looked at him and said “I really don’t want ribs for dinner”. He agreed. So we finished the pasta and spinach and put the ribs back in the oven for another 4 hours so that the meat would fall off the bone. We were going to have the meat on sandwiches today but I didn’t feel like messing with it this morning. The ribs seemed like a good idea when I bought them on Friday.

New Furniture

As you may remember, we had a little quarrel with the store over the delivery of our furniture. We’ve had the pieces for about 3 weeks now and have finally finished monkeying around with the electronic portion of the installation. I’m very happy to say that the CD player now turns off when the receiver does and I can control the CD player even with the cabinet doors closed. What’s the point of having a mondo remote control if it doesn’t obey your wishes?

We also restored sound to the porch and I’m so glad of that now that it is 30 degrees outside. Hehe.

I’ve included a photo of said furniture. Yes, that’s a plastic flying pig in the frame. Cheers.

This Explains So Much

Now I know why one white kitty sleeps all day and the other vomits all the time…they’ve been out partying too much.

A Good Day for a Nap

It is rainy and grey, grey, grey and we may actually wake up with snow on the ground tomorrow. Of course it won’t stick around since the ground is so warm.

Yesterday I visited with a friend who is recuperating from some minor surgery. We hung out for most of the day and I got to play with her dog Gracie. Oh what fun we had…did you know that chasing after a ball down the hall is possibly the greatest thing ever? Well, it is true. Try it. Of course, you’ll need a dachshund to truly appreciate the fun.

This morning I met my friend A.W. for breakfast at River City Diner. She had the french toast and I got blueberry pancakes. Because of my cold and talking so much I wasn’t able to finish the pancakes–breathing and talking and eating really, what was I thinking. So, I’ll have those leftover pancakes for lunch.

Tomorrow morning we’re babysitting the Niece for about an hour. We’re looking forward to it. I’m sure there will all kinds of mayhem packed into an hour.

Yuck

Yesterday I felt like I might be getting a cold. By 7pm last night I had a cold. I’m staying home from work today to try to kick this thing to the curb.

I have a hard time when I’m at home doing nothing…don’t ask me why. I need to convince myself that reading, laying around and drinking tea are very worthy activities.

I think, though, the thing that will make me fully well is a bowl of steaming Hot & Sour soup from the Full Kee. Hopefully, I can convince the better-half to stop on his way home from work.

Right On Info World

While checking out the latest edition of Info World, I came across this article and I shook my fist in the air and said “Amen”–English Majors rock.

Interpretations

A couple of weeks ago I read someone’s blog and was taken aback by how much she complained about her spouse. I can only assume that he is aware that she has a blog and sometimes reads it. It would really bother me if the better-half aired our dirty laundry on the web for everyone (or possibly no one) to see. My friends and I may have griped about boyfriends but after the big committment we stopped.

I’ve been thinking about interpretations lately. Everyone has their side of the story and sometimes it is hard to see the same story from another perspective. So, maybe the blogger has a much more complex story than complaining about whether or not her spouse spends enough time helping around the house. Maybe her spouse airs as much dirty laundry as she does. I can only hope that the blogger thinks before she puts her complaints out on the web and that she spends as much time talking to her spouse about the complaints as she does sharing them with the world.

I know when I share something on F&G I put a lot of thought into it before I write it–whether that is me saying so-long to a class-act swimmer or something about my family.

As much as I have shared about my family I’ve not discussed the trouble we’re having with the better-half’s mother (the story is long and sullied).

She has finally come out and said that I’m all wrong for her son–after nearly 8 years of marriage. I’ve known since the beginning I’m not who she hoped for but I am who he hoped for. I also know that the grievances she has are all about her interpretation of events. I challenge her to find anyone who knows me to come up with the same opinion of me that she has. She’s out in far left field and I know that. I know what kind of person I am and, unfortunately, she’ll never know how loyal of a person I am. I’m the one that friends and family know will be there through thick or thin. And, that is why I will support the better-half in trying to get to a place with his mother that makes it easier for him. I believe it has to get better no matter how she feels about me.

Egads

The better-half and I are enjoying cocktails and cheese and crackers. I jumped up and declared that I made a typo on the website. Sure enough, to my horror, I flubbed the last entry’s title. My apologies.

An Invitation to My Parents’

I thought I should give an update on my family situation. My parents got home from their 15 day trip (to many places in Florida, on a cruise, to one place in North Carolina) on Saturday and on Sunday we got a phone call asking us to come over to see pictures and to pick up a t-shirt. I’ll be honest and say that when I heard the message I felt a bit panicked. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do and I was kind of in a bad mood since we had just been to Home Depot and their self-checkout lane was totally fugged and I can’t stand incompetence. I decided that if we didn’t go then I would be the one who wasn’t trying so we went.

I’m not saying that things are back to the way they were but I didn’t get the hostility vibe that I’ve gotten the past several times I’ve seen my father. I consider that progress. We didn’t have any heart-felt conversations but we didn’t avoid each other and we both participated in conversation about their trip and he actually was in greet mode at the door–of course he was hiding behind a palm leaf–the Niece was on her way over too.

We all thought the palm leaf would be a little scary but she marched right in and disarmed my father and made that palm leaf her own. It was nice to see her wrap my father back around her finger.
